If you've lost a loved one in death, I am so sorry. Words cannot describe how difficult this can be at times. There's also a lot to consider and decisions to make. You may need to have your loved one's property appraised to determine its market value.

Typically, this type of appraisal is called a retrospective appraisal, meaning the value is based on the date your loved one passed away. It is standard for homes I appraise for probate to be filled with the personal belongings of your loved one. I do not appraise personal property. I only appraise the property. However, this is not a problem if the house is filled with personal belongings.
